Day 3: Quadbuster…check!

Well, it’s day three. I made it all the way to San Luis Obispo. We left the cool coatline and started moving inland. We came in through some beautiful central coast vineyards and got to ride along some of the beautiful open plains of California. It was a short ride around 66 miles. Today’s temperature was somewhere in the mid to high 80s.

This day also featured one of the famous climbs on the ride called the Quadbuster. That will climb is a 1.3 mile climb and at its steepest point is a 9% grade. Not a bad little way to start off the morning. I really enjoyed it.

Another favorite part of the ride today was cycling into Bradley. Bradleys a little tiny town just north of Paso Robles. In this little town which is our usual lunch stop the local school cells hamburgers and drinks to the riders. The money raised from this day funds almost all of their arts programs for the year. The kids are totally awesome and the food at this point tastes absolutely amazing.

Another highlight of the day is Rest Stop 4 which is located at the Mission San Miguel. Because of the short ride, cyclist get to the rest stop quite quickly. So it fills quickly, but not because it’s a short day–because there is always a great show to be had by the rest guys. This year’s theme Jem And The Holograms…and it didn’t disappoint. Check out the videos below to see their dress rehearsal.

Overall this is one of my favorite days on the ride because I start to get into the rhythm of the whole event. You loose sense of what day and what time it is and you just focus on peddling. This is also the day where we near the halfway point of the ride and from here on out things move so quickly.
